Spleen
Komiks Spleen zaczyna się w 2020 roku, kiedy unieruchomiła mnie kontuzja kręgosłupa. Wtedy spotkałam się ze stwierdzeniem, że choroby mogą być formą reakcji na nieprzepracowane emocje, wyparte wspomnienia i traumy. Zaczęłam traktować reakcje mojego ciała jako wskazówki z czym w sobie nie mam kontaktu. Dlatego tytułem komiksu jest angielskie słowo spleen (tłum. śledziona/melancholia), które wiąże w sobie cielesność i emocje. To co w komiksie dzieje się z ciałem jest metaforą wewnętrznego rozbicia, psychicznej niemocy.
Spleen był rysowany bez scenariusza, a opowieść płynęła równolegle do pracy terapeutycznej, co powodowało ciągłe zmiany i wydłużało cały proces. Komiks poprzez swoją narracyjną naturę dopowiada obrazy z serii „Kultura ciała”. Jego pierwsze wersje można było zobaczyć na wystawie Kobieta na Księżycu w bytomskiej CSW Kronice (2021). W 2023 fragmenty w postaci ciekawskiego oka pokazałam na wystawie „Suche oczy” w Centrum Sztuki Galerii EL w Elblągu, a rok później trzy rysunki nawiązujące do Spleenu zaistniały jako dwu i półmetrowe murale w bydgoskiej miejskiej galerii bwa.
The comic book Spleen begins in 2020 when a spinal injury immobilized me. That’s when I encountered the idea that illnesses can be a form of reaction to unprocessed emotions, repressed memories, and traumas. I started treating my body’s reactions as clues about what within myself I wasn’t in contact with. That is why the title of the comic is the English word spleen (spleen/melancholy), which links the physical body and emotions. What happens to the body in the comic is a metaphor for internal fragmentation, for psychological helplessness.
Spleen was drawn without a script, and the narrative flowed parallel to the therapeutic work, which caused constant changes and prolonged the entire process. Through its narrative nature, the comic adds further context to the images from the “Body Culture” series. Its first versions could be seen at the Woman on the Moon exhibition at the CSW Kronika in Bytom (2021). In 2023, fragments in the form of a “curious eye” were shown by me at the Dry Eyes exhibition at the El Gallery Art Centre in Elbląg, and a year later, three drawings referencing Spleen appeared as two-and-a-half-meter murals in the BWA city gallery in Bydgoszcz.
