homeland 2013

Homeland jest rezultatem analizy mojej własnej historii i obserwacji wpływu przeszłości na teraźniejszość. Dawne, nieświadome relacje z bliskimi wciąż mogą determinować obecne działania i wybory. Wypowiedzi między innymi Franza Kafki, Hermana Hessego, Ingmara Bergmana o ich wychowaniu oraz fragmenty przedwojennych książek o wychowaniu dzieci stanowią komentarz do tej pracy.

Homeland is a result of an analysis of my own history and observation on how the past can affect the present. Past unconscious relationships with loved ones may still determine the current actions and choices. The pronouncements among others of Franz Kafka, Herman Hesse, Ingmar Bergman and the excerpts from child-raising books of the last two centuries act as a comment to my work.

Ten czarno-biały film przedstawia sylwetkę dziecka w różnych momentach jego aktywności, takich jak raczkowanie, chodzenie i zabawa. Film składa się z kilku krótkich fragmentów, oddzielonych pauzami, bez wyraźnego początku ani końca. Poszczególne fragmenty nie są połączone w logiczną sekwencję. Każdy fragment stanowi osobny zapis, fragment mikrożycia i mógłby funkcjonować jako niezależny obraz.

Czerń i biel pozwalają na lepsze skupienie się na niewyraźnej postaci, dzięki czemu obraz staje się wyraźniejszy, a jednocześnie – mniej realistyczny. Postać dziecka jest rozmyta, co stwarza złudzenie, że porusza się szybciej, niż może uchwycić migawka aparatu. Zupełnie jakbyśmy nie mogli nadążyć za dzieckiem. Choć nie widzimy go idealnie, jest ono głównym i jedynym bohaterem filmu. Nawet jeśli w kadrze pojawia się inna postać, należy ona do nieruchomego tła, jakby nie istniała w wymiarze dziecka. W świecie dziecka nie ma nieruchomych rzeczy – wszystko istnieje w ciągłym ruchu, w zdobywaniu nowych doświadczeń, w ciągłym rozwoju.

Nie pokazuję dziecka wprost takim, jakie jest, raczej próbuję zobrazować, jak je postrzegam. Kocham to dziecko, ale mam świadomość, że jest ono odrębną istotą, żyjącą obok mnie, ale w innym wymiarze. Staram się jednak bardzo je zrozumieć, poczuć to, co ono czuje, jego postrzeganie rzeczywistości przekracza moje możliwości.

This black&white film shows a silhouette of a child at various moments of its activity, like crawling, walking and playing. The film consists of several short units, divided by pauses, without a distinct beginning or end. These individual units are not bonded into any logical sequence. Each unit is a separate record, a section of micro life and could function as an independent image.

Black and white allows a better concentration on an indistinct figure, making the picture cleaner and at the same time – less real. The child’s figure is blurred, which creates an illusion that the child is moving faster than the shutter of camera can catch. Just like we could not keep up with the kid. Although we can’t see the child perfectly, it is the main and only character of the film. Even if a different figure appears in the frame, it belongs to the still background, like it didn’t exist in the child’s dimension. There are no still things in a child’s world – everything exists in continual motion, in acquiring new experiences, in constant progress.

I don’t show the child explicitly as it is, I rather attempt to depict how I perceive it. I love this child but I am aware that it is a separate being, living beside me but in a different dimension. However I am trying very hard to understand it, to feel what it feels, its perception of reality is beyond my capabilities.
